The Shared Employee Initiative (SEI) is a collaborative effort between Trempealeau County Health Care Center and Trempealeau County Health Department, Trempealeau County Department of Social Services, and other home care providers working within the county.
We have developed a shared employee pool of Certified Nurse Aides at the Trempealeau County Health Care Center who are interested in providing home care services. The CNA's are on the federal registry and are trained to be "universal" workers covering supportive home care, personal care and home health aide levels of care. SEI was first developed as a fill-in to provide support on a temporary, emergency basis. This role has changed slightly as the availability of care givers varies.
The collaboration has decreased the time someone spends on a waiting list for services they need now to function at an optimal level in the community setting. In addition, it has allowed Trempealeau County Health Care Center to reduce staff turnover and related need for recruitment and training by increasing the number of full-time employees by converting part-time positions to full-time.
One of the main factors is that the effort has brought with it quality workers that are committed to improving the quality of care provided.
Taking the next step, Trempealeau County Health Care Center entered into collaboration with Senior Services of Trempealeau County in 2002.
Senior Services of Trempealeau County offers home delivery of meals, in addition to the support of Nutrition Sites within the county. This service offers disabled and elderly the opportunity to enhance and/or maintain their nutritional status as well as a social outlet for such clients. To enhance the program, Trempealeau County Health Care Center provides drivers for the program. The program has expanded, offering a shopping service to local supermarkets in addition to medical transport to eligible clients.
Again, Trempealeau County Health Care Center offers well-trained staff that can deal with situations as they arise. In addition to regular meals, the transporters deliever meal supplements and other provisions that a client may be eligible for. They often become the clients' only contact with the outside world.
This partnership enhances an already exsiting program by bringing new options and possibilities to the citizens of Trempealeau County.
